EU Blue Card Germany requirements for skilled professionals, 2026 salary thresholds, IT professionals and regulated occupations.

The EU Blue Card is a German residence title under section 18g of the Residence Act for qualifying skilled employment. Eligibility depends on qualification, a concrete job offer, salary and, where relevant, professional licensing.

2026 salary thresholds

For 2026, the official German skilled-migration portal states EUR 50,700 as the general annual gross threshold and EUR 45,934.20 for qualifying shortage occupations and certain new entrants to the labour market. These figures change and must be checked for the relevant year.

IT professionals without a degree

Under specific conditions, IT specialists may qualify based on comparable professional experience even without a traditional university degree.

Regulated professions

A residence title does not replace professional licensing. Doctors and other regulated professionals must also address recognition and licensing requirements.
